2.3.12 Another death of an acquaintance; youngish C, in trouble with the law (I am told) and never a smile on her face, as I know from seeing her often at the wine store where she worked, overdosed and died.

I'm becoming the Hans Castorp of the Pines, curious over our Der Zauberberg (Magic Mountain, Thomas Mann), our scary sanatarioum called Whiting, a Mt. Misery magic and death-filled place, not to mention Mt. Misery itself. You have to be tough to live there and they are. You have to be willing in Whiting, and they are. Hans, finally does say, "because of charity and love, man should never allow death to rule one's thoughts." Thank you Mr. Mann.

2.2.12 Table 2.2.12 What happens after 1000 tables?

2.1.12 These numbers, any numbers, these dates, times, these moments- it is maddening, and someone around here is fearing the bigness and the smallness of them. Names are the worst, each a barb of anxiety, a terrible current of thought, the dangerous detritus of associations smashing against memories washing along with bits and pieces of old dreams.

Some sick stuff:

— oneself sick do something to such an extent that one feels nauseous or unwell (often used for emphasis) : she was worrying herself sick about Mike.
sick and tired of (informal) annoyed about or bored with (something) and unwilling to put up with it any longer : I am sick and tired of all the criticism.
( as) sick as a dog (informal) extremely ill.
( as) sick as a parrot (Brit., informal) extremely disappointed.
the sick man of —— a country that is politically or economically unsound, esp. in comparison with its neighbors in the region specified : the country had been the sick man of Europe for too long. [ORIGIN: from a use of sick man, frequently applied in the late 19th cent. to the Sultan of Turkey, later extended to Turkey and other countries.]
sick to death of (informal) another way of saying sick and tired of above.
sick to one's stomach nauseous. • disgusted.Table 2.1.12 (no. 250 in the series, which is a quarter of the way to the 1000 Tables goal). More numbers, one can't escape.
